I thought the evening tour with the night watchman in Rothenburg would be fun for our kids (ages 8 & 12). Has anyone done this tour? Would the kids enjoy it or be bored?
We did it with my then 11 y/o son, and we all thoroughly enjoyed it! He's extremely entertaining.
I was wondering the same thing. My daughter (13) and I will be staying over in Rothenburg in May and I wanted to do the Night Watchman tour but wasn't sure if it would be fun for her. After seeing the comments from others we will probably do the tour.
Deanna,
I believe children that age would enjoy the tour. He's quite entertaining and of course the costume and the Halberd adds to the atmosphere. The tour moves along at a good pace, so I doubt that the children would get bored (attention span is important).
The Crime & Punishment Museum is quite interesting too, as it depicts the realities of life in the medieval times.
Cheers!
My 2 boys were about that age and really liked it. We did too!
I think all ages would enjoy the tour.
We did the tour last year with our kids. My two daughters were 13 & 16. They loved it. The tour is both informative about what life was like for Rothenburg citizens and the nightwatchman is very funny as well. I think you would all enjoy it.
Thank you all for the feedback. We will definitely do the tour and the Krimminal Museum. My husband and I were in Rothenburg a few years ago and went through the museum...my kids will love it! We saw the night watchman when we were there, but did not do the tour on that trip, so it will be somenthing new.
The Night Watchman's tour in Rhotenburg was a highlight for our whole family. Our kids at the time were (almost 8, 11, and almost 16). The boys (11 and 15) also enjoyed the crime and punishment museum.
This tour is REALLY great and I think all ages would enjoy it!! We've talked about how fun this was many times. One of those things that "sticks out" in your trip memories.
Hi,
One (actually two) more people who enjoyed the Nightwatchman's Tour. We liked it so much, we ordered the DVD after we got home, through his website.

As already stated, the Night Watchman's Tour in Rothenburg is alot of fun and entertaining for any age. The day after our tour we were in one of the shops that sold medeviel souvenirs and there was a family with two young kids in there. The kids maybe about 8 and 10 years old were trying to convince the parents that a sword and lantern would be great souvenirs to bring home and that they wanted to be the Night Watchman for Halloween. That wasn't working with the parents who tried to explain how the sword wasn't going to be allowed on the airplane. It was a real sword (not plastic) and very expensive. It was all very cute. You and your kids will definitely enjoy the experience.
We did it in 1996 and still remember it!
I was there last yr. I thought it was a bit pricey that is if there is a charge for children too. It's an hour walking tour thru town.
so worth it. we did it years ago, it's STILL the same guy and he is outstanding...

Prices for the Nightwatchman's tour are just 6 Euro for adults and free for children under 12.
