I want to know if anybody has taken the night train from Paris to Munich and what cost would be first class or flight would be better Thanks

Hi, I took the CNL night train Paris Est to Munich in the summer of 2011. You arrive ca 0716. It was all right, had a compartment seat which cost 9 Euro with my rail Pass. It would have been better had the armchair option (Ruhesessel) been offfered, not available to and from Paris. The advantage is not only gaining an additional day but the CNL route is direct.

I see some deluxe single compartments with a nonrefundable fare of 174 euro. Flights look pretty pricey. There are fast trains that can do the run in just over 6 hours. One direct TGV at 3:19 pm, a one change at 5:10 pm, and several morning one changes. These in the 69 to 89 euro 1st class range. The CNL takes 11 hours and some of the compartments are fully booked now, especially around weekends. All depends on what day you want to travel.

If you book ASAP (up to 92 days allowed) on the German Rail site, you can get a Europa-Spezial Frankreich discount fare for either the CNL night train or daytime trains. Will you be traveling alone or with someone? What is your travel date?
