My husband and I will be in Chamonix at the end of May. We have read about a night train from Chamonix to Paris. The only train I could find was through Switzerland with a lengthy stopover late at night and about 3-4 changes. Has anyone done this or have any other suggestions?

The best timetable site, www.bahn.de, shows NO night train for Chamonix-Paris. For all your daytime choices, go to the DB site and click on the drop-down menu in the upper right-hand corner for English. After you get summary timetables, click on "Details for all" to see the connecting points.

Chamonix is a pretty small place... there are no trains directly.
I would advise you to take a SAT-bus to Geneve (gare routière) (http://www.sat-montblanc.com) and then a TGV-train to Paris. There are many direct trains.
For exemple: 16:30 bus from Chamonix arrives by 18 o'clock to Geneve. Then 19:30 TGV from Geneve. Arrives at 22:50 to Paris.
