Night life in Paris

I'm leaving for Paris in a few weeks, taking my granddaughter and her girlfriend. They will be staying with me for the first 10 days, then home to school. They are 20 and wanting to spend some evenings on their own, music and dancing. Does anyone have places/clubs they could recommend? I don't want to spend my evening worrying about them. My granddaughter and I were there for 2 weeks 2 years ago, I've retired now and get to spend Sept and Oct in Paris.

She's 20 and should be able to do some research on clubs & nightlife that suit her tastes regarding music. Tell her to look through a copy of "Time Out Paris" and also the nightlife sections in guides geared towards young adult travelers - such as Let's Go, Rough Guide or Lonely Planet. She could also post a question on the ThornTree travel forum where lots of backpackers & 20-30 yos post and ask what clubs she can go to for whatever music she enjoys (rap/hip hop, trance, pop, etc) that are near your hotel (you don't mention what section of Paris you are staying in and Paris is a large city). To ease your mind, you might ask her to at least stick to a nearby arrondisement so she can walk or cab it and avoid being on the Metro late at night as most dance clubs really don't get busy until 11pm or later. Overall, she can have a fun & safe night as long as she doesn't drink too much and she keeps track of her drink at all times (ie, don't put the drink on a table & go dance and give someone an opportunity to slip something in it).

As Samuel says, the Pariscope is a good source of current nightlife listings.

I think Timeout is the best source for descriptions of the clubs and "what's on" in English, but it's limited to the most popular places. It has a pretty good website.

Another idea is to check online with Let's Go.
