Hi, Has anyone taken the train from Nice to Barcelona? Its a long trip and I thought Id break it with a stopover in Montpellier. Can anyone advise if this is a good city for a stopover? Or have any other recommendation? With thanks in advance, Kathryn
Montpellier is a very nice and largely undiscovered area by the tourists. Spent a night and a day there and was impressed with the main plaza area.
Montpellier's a nice city. Not a great deal in terms of high profile sights, but an attractive old town and some good food available. There is a through train every morning from Montpellier to Barcelona without having to change trains at the border, although this might change shortly as they are building a new high speed line.
I loved Montpellier, it would be a great place to spend a day or two. Its a nice city, good for walking. There aren't a ton of sights, but if you like museums, the Musee Fabre is one of the best art museums in France (and one of my personal favorites).
I just did this 3 weeks ago. Stop over in Nimes, France.
Thankyou all for your sound advice. Ill have to have a look at what Nimes offers. Merci
Any suggestions for a moderately priced hotel within walking distance of the train station in Montpellier?
