Nice to Arles, Lunch in Aix??

My family will be in France in October, starting in Nice and then next stop will be Arles. I thought we could stop half-way on the day we drive to have lunch and spend some time in a town. I thought Aix would be a good stopping place but am finding it very hard to find ANY information on Aix.

First, between Nice and Arles - would you recommend stopping in Aix for lunch, or another location?

If we stop in Aix, I know there is the main drag (can't remember the name of the tree-lined street) but I thought we could start there, then ???

Any suggestions would be helpful

thank you

It's the Cours Mirabeau and there a dozens of cafes along the street. Assuming you're driving, the only issue would be parking. There are pay lots close by. The pedestrian-only streets in Aix make a nice stroll but I thought the shops were pretty generic (Body Shop, etc.).

It's a good plan. Serious foodies might stop in Marseilles for bouillabaisse, but that would require reservations and about three hours!

The other alternative would be to pack a picnic. But Aix is a great everybody-split-up-for-an-hour break.

Thanks for your input, I'll locate a parking lot near the main street and we can look for a casual place to just relax for a bit.

I do know that leaving luggage in a car is a no-no. If it's in a trunk, do you think tourismo's are still a target? I will be reserving a car large enough that it will have a trunk, and hopefully will get just that, but I don't want to think I've out smarted them to find that our luggage is gone in the beginning part of our trip.
