We want to rent a beach house in Portugal for a week in July, driving down from Lisbon. I've heard lots of the little towns are WAY overcrowded. We don't mind a place with some condos but not one that's wildly overdeveloped. Anyone have any advice on a good town to look in?

I am visiting Portugal for the first time in June and will be staying in a time-share in Praia de Gale, itis in the Albufeira area, but outside and the reviews I have read on it, say it is nice there is a beautiful beach nearby and it is not far from the mail town. I am looking forward to going but still don't know what I can visit there. I am not the beach kind of girl, perhaps one day, but that would be enough for me. Any ideas as to what I can see and visit while in Albuifera or close around there. I would like to know how far it is to Seville and Cardoba, on the map it looks close, however, its a different thing when you travel there.
Any comments.

Jane,
Are you interested in seeing sights in the Algarve, or is your main objective enjoying the beaches?
I liked Salema (we were there 2 years ago, in April). We stayed at The Mare. It's just a brief walk (less than 2 mins) from the beach. http://www.algarve.co.uk/
I also liked Ingrinia (sp) beach, to the west of Salema.
