Nice, French Riveria

Any ideas where to stay in Nice, preferably close to promenade/sight-seeing? Love Villefranche-sur-Mer area (may be too expensive) but looking for something close to transportation. Need a place where we can cook meals. Thanks:)

Alex,

I don't know of any places in Nice where you can "cook meals", but if you'd like a nice hotel, I'd highly recommend Hotel Suisse. It provides a wonderful view of the Promenade des Anglais and is close to the old town.

Hopefully one of the others will have some apartment suggestions.

Happy travels!

Search VRBO or HomeAway, both are private owners renting their apartments usually with kitchen.

As well as apartments to rent, look for "aparthotels" which are hotels with self-catering facilities in all rooms. Both the Citadines and Appartcity chains have ones in Nice.

I'm not sure when you were planning to go, but obviously, time of year influences the cost. We are using the rental agency, Nice Pebbles, and so far, so good. They have a very user friendly website (better than AirBnB and VRBO, in my humble opinion).

Villefranche is so beautiful, it's worth the extra expense in my opinion. I'm not a huge Nice fan as it is more of a large city. Villefranche is small and anywhere you stay is convenient to the train station for quick jaunts over to Monte Carlo or over to Nice.
A quick look on vrbo shows quite a few apartments from as low as 100 euros per night. It truly is heaven on earth. We spent 3 weeks in Europe last summer, and if there is one place I want to go back to spend more time -- this is at the very top of my list.

Renting an apartment in Villafranche or Nice are in the same price range. If you want to cook your own meals an apartment is the way to go. www.vrbo.com is good. Read the reviews and then do a google search on that specific apartment for reviews.

You will need to reserve several months in advance if in heavy tourist time.
