Nice for a month

We will be in Nice for the month of July. We are taking side trips to Milan, Budapest, and Cinque Terre. What should we NOT miss in the Riviera area?

If you are interested in modern art, you must pay a visit to St. Paul de Vence. Fondation Maeght, in that town, houses an outstanding collection. Its sculpture garden is especially wonderful. St.Paul is apt to be a bit overrun with tourists in July, but so is anything else in that area.

Hello Patty,

I live in Vancouver and I just left Nice this morning and I am in Strasbourg. I loved Nice and wish I stayed longer. You must go to a cafe called Kitchena it is on the main street where the trams run across from the Zara store, manager is Caesar and Pascal tell them I sent you, they made my whole trip! Ask for a Kir Royal I had about 8 every night! Monaco was nice but take the bus it is a beautiful drive and when you walk to the Palace jump on the 30 min drive around tour. I didnt go anywhere else but I heard Cannes is beautiful. If you want to know anything about Nice let me know. Also pick up a map at the tourist office right away:

Eze-le-Village, the Eze on the Middle Corniche not the one on the coast (there are two Ezes), for the reasons given in Rick's book.

We took the train to Grasse. Loved it, especially the Fragonard perfumery.

Loved Villefranche Sur Mer and delicious food at Le Nautic. Easy access beach, but sharp little pebbly beach (not sand). Will definitely need water shoes or sandals.

We also loved Nice ... lots of neighborhood restaurants with good food. We enjoyed the hop on/hop off bus tour as it gave a great overview.

Last summer I enjoyed Eze, great for lunch and a fab view and so lovely and picturesque to stroll. Also Monaco, go by train then walk everywhere. Villefranche is not as touristy as the other 2 I mentioned and nice for visitng then dinner.

Nice is one of my favorite places in Europe! We loved Eze. The tropical gardens provide beautiful views.

I think the Fregonard perfume place is a tourist trap to be avoided.(there is one in Eze as well) Thought all their scents smelled terrible. All they are trying to do is get you to buy somethings. So many better thgs. to do near Nice. Eze, Villefranche, the Rothschild villa museum which is at Cap Ferrat, I believe. Lots more. The old town is Nice is my very favaorite. Fun shops and places to eat. Market is brocante on Mondays only...food/flowers the rest of the time. NEVER take a taxi in Nice...it will cost a fortune! You can even take a train to Italy...Ventimiglia(???SP) for a fun foray into shopping there. Cannes is ho-hum.
St. Paul de Vence is fun but touristy. Have a drink/sandwich at the cafe overlooking the boules court across from the fammous restaurant whose name I just forgot!!!! Have fun.

Hi Patty, My first question would be who is we in that does we include children that are younger etc

My wife and I have three children under 11. We lived in Beaulieu Sur Mer which is a stones throw from Nice for three years up until four months ago. I am Hungarian and have made the trip to Budepest from Nice many a time. It is 12 hours of 130 mph not kilometers one way by car.

There is plenty to do near Nice and places to visit on the way to and from Budapest. Are you driving or taking the train on your side trips?

I have better answers if you can be more specific.
