Have 8 days on the ground (not counting travel days) in October. Early reviews of the region suggest that we split the majority our our time in Bouches Du Rhone and Vaucluse and eventually work our way back to the Alpes Maritimes region - we fly in and out of Nice. Should we do a 50/50 split between the two, or is it more of a 60/40? At this point we are looking at public transport from and to airport and for day trips. Thanks in advance!
Monica, It depends on what you want to see and do. It's a three hour train ride along the coast from Nice to the cities in the Bouche du Rhone, assuming you are referring to Aix-en-Provence or others close by. You could easily fill eight days just traveling to the sites in the Nice area. Could you be more specific.
With only 8 days, you could spend it all in one area or the other, or can split it any way you wish. There is no one "correct" answer. You will have to decide what you, personally, want to see, and what doesn't excite you as much. Please clarify: are you going to have a car for any part of your trip? This will greatly influence other people's recommendations.
Yes, we have decided to rent a car.
