I will be in provence and the Luberon area next Sept with a car. Any suggestions for a base? Any villages or towns for day trips? Your suggestions would be much appreciated.
Many thanks in advance
Here's a link with suggestions from Rick and a friend: http://www.ricksteves.com/plan/destinations/france/luberon.htmAnd reading A Year in Provnece by Peter Mayle will give you more ideas.
Jeff, we spent 8 days in Provence early october this year and stayed at a gite between St Remy and les Baux which was a great base for visiting Arles, Avignon, the Luberon villages,Pont de Gard, Uzes, etc. It was great to have our own little place where we could make our own breakfasts and suppers and be able to wash some clothes etc. You will love Provence.
We spent a week in Provence in September 2007. We stayed in Isle sur le Sorgue and rented a small Gite that was a RS recommendation. It was called Le Pigeonnier and it was very nice. We drove to the Luberon villages, Arles, St. Remy and several other areas. The town of Isle sur le Sorgue was big enough to have supermarkets, lots of restaurants and shopping. Roussillion, the Pont du Gard, Le Baux, Avignon - actually all the villages were really lovely. You will really love Provence.....
