New Years in Paris

Hi Everyone. I am wondering what the weather could be like around this time of year and will most things still be open. I have checked the net and an average temp looks to be in the 30/40s. Should we go this time of year? Thanks Tim

Hi Tim,
Each year will be different of course, but we were there for New Years 08/09. They were having a real cold snap, and the warmest it ever got (2 week trip/10 of those days were in Paris) was 33 degrees. Although we brought layers and I thought we were well prepared for the cold, we froze our tushes off! You are from Illinois, so maybe those temps will feel balmy to you. That said, Paris was fabulous...as always. The days are very short. The sun came up around 9 and it set about 4:30. It's not a good time of year for gardens and parks, but on the other hand there are plenty of indoor activities. We couldn't go above the first level of the Eiffel Tower because of freezing temps. The city is beautifully decorated for the holidays. I would might want to consider renting an apartment. You may find that you will spend more time in the place you are staying and having some extra space is nice.
