I am planning on arriving in Paris on December 31, 2012. I am also planning on doing a picnic near the tower at midnight. Are there any bakeries or markets that I can buy my food at on December 31st or will things be closed up?

The markets will be open during the day on the 31th. You need a plan B because it could be very cold, rainy, or snowing.

Go early to do your shopping. Places close earlier on the 31st.
