New Year's Eve in Spain

Does anyone have a recommendation of where to spend New Year's Eve? Choices include Madrid, Granada, Sevilla or Cordoba.

Hi Marcia,
I spent New Year in Spain this year on the South coast, near Marbella. Unfortunately, I ended up spending the evening on my own in the hotel room!! That wasn't the plan, but you know what happens to plans...
Anyway- I watched the televised celebrations from all over Spain and it looked like everywhere was having a really good time, lots of fireworks, big, happy crowds.
Of the cities you've mentioned, Granada will probably be the chilliest (because of the altitude) and Seville or Cordoba the warmest, if that makes any difference to you.
Hope you have a good time (better than me, at least!) Maggie

My wife and I are spending 3 nights in Barcelona and 4 nights in Madrid, including New Year's Eve, with a day trip to Seville on 2 January. When we looked into it, it appeared that Madrid's Puerta del Sol would be make a memorable--as well as crazy and loud and long!--New Year's Eve experience. We're city people, so we opted for Madrid. Being from Chicago, the weather, anywhere in Espana, will be better than home!

The classic venue is Plaza Mayor in Madrid. In Seville, you'll find a big, international crowd in Plaza Nueva (in front of the town hall). Personally, I find New Year's Eve (Noche Vieja) to be a bit of a let down, but that's probably because the nightlife during the rest of the year is at least as good.
