My husband and I will be in Paris for New Years. I wanted to go to Brussels for a day trip on Dec. 31 so that I don't waste a day with my museum pass I am going to buy the rest of the week we are there. Does anyone know how crazy the train might be trying to get back to Paris before dinner time? I planned on leaving Brussels around 5:30pm to return to Paris, but am thinking that we not be able to get back? Can someone please set my mind at ease? Thank you! Kate

Hello Kate,
I checked with the SNCF (website) and there are evening trains running from Brussels to Paris that evening.
Brussels>Paris
4:43pm>6:05pm
5:13pm>6:35pm
5:43pm>7:05pm
6:03pm>7:45pm
They are all 78E. Since they are high speed trains, you will need reservations. If you will be using a RailPass, buy the reservations as soon as you arrive France. If you will be purchasing tickets, buy them online ASAP and have them delivered to your hotel in Paris.
