We have decided to spring for a nice hotel in Paris (150-190 euros/nt) since this is our last big vacation in a while and want to go out with a bang. We've been to Paris for a week before in the summer, so this isn't that kind of a trip. For one thing, we'll be coming in from 10 days in Bavaria and flying out of Paris on January 2nd. We'd like to be a part of the city where the most is "happening" on New Year's Eve. I'm going to do more searching on my own, but we would like to do the dinner and dancing (swing/jazzy stuff) thing and want to be located near that kind of area. Should we be near the Eiffel Tower? Are there fireworks? Or is Montparnasse the place to be?We stayed in the Marais last time. We really liked the Marais because it felt less touristy, but we are back for a much shorter time and for a different purpose, so not sure that wouldn't be too out of the way. I'm concerned about getting back to our hotel when the celebrating is over at 2 a.m. Any suggestions?
