New Year's Eve 2010/2011 in Paris - Clarification

I thought Paris would be a great location to celebrate NYE, and I have been wanting to go back, so I thought NYE was all the more reason to go. But in researching I have read some 'critical' things about spending NYE in Paris. I have also read things that make it sound like they no longer do fireworks at the Eiffel Tower, or maybe there was never official fireworks in Paris? It's unclear at this point. I would love people's thoughts/experiences on this, so if I am in Paris I know what to expect. Thanks!

It may change from year to year. I was there two years ago for NYE. There were no fireworks at the Eiffel Tower, though I was led to believe there would be. We were on the Pont Neuf at midnight, along with lots of other people. Many people had wine or champagne, and some people were setting off their own fireworks. I'm sure plenty of clubs have special NYE parties, though I would suspect they cost a bundle and you would need reservations. I did not see any evidence of a Times Square type celebration. If you want to go back to Paris and don't mind the cold (which I'm sure you're used to!), it is a beautiful time to be in Paris.
