Just found the 14-day Castle pass - does anyone knw of reservations are still needed or if you just walk in to the castles (like Neuschwanstein etc). Seems liek a good deal fo 20 euros if you go to more than 2!

Yes, the pass can be a good idea. In the fall of 2007, I visited Linderhof, Festung Marienberg and the Residenz in Würzburg, and the castles in Nürnberg and Burghausen, all for €20!
For the five I visited, there was an admission office, and I just walked in, showed them the card, and they set me up with a tour. For Neuschwanstein, you need to arrange for a tour at the kiosk in town, near the bus stop. If you want to call or email ahead for a reserved time, you will have to pay for that. Note that the Castle pass is not valid for Hohenschwangau Castle.
