I am having a difficult time trying to figure out the most ecomical way to get to the castle. I will have an extra day on my eurail pass and thought ai would use that but when I type in Fussen as my destination it bring to someplace 10 hours away from Munich. Is Fussen train station called something else? Should I take a bus from Munich instead?
Thank you so much. It has been driving me crazy, I can't imagine I'll survive when I'm over there!!
Kent's right, ü and u are not the same thing. It's like going to United's website and saying you want to go to "Now Yerk Cety". "ü" is a different vowel from "u"; it's called a "gerundete Vorderzungenvokal" (a vowel pronounced with the lips rounded and the tongue toward in the mouth. It was originally written "ue", but was reduced to ü (long story, something to do with ancient German handwriting). Anyway, write "Fuessen" rather then "Fussen". Better yet, use "Fuessen Bahnhof".
If you do a daytrip from Munich (aka Muenchen), consider taking the train with the Bayern-ticket. 27 eur for the day and it's good for 5 people traveling together.
More generally, if your only option in Germany is a local train, the laender-tickets are often cheaper than one-way tickets.
