Neuschwanstein ticket reservation question

I have a reservation for King Ludwig's castles. The reservation email is kind of confusing. First it says that our pick up time is 11:20, whih makes sense since we requested 12:00 noon. But then later it says pick up your tickets an hour before your scheduled time of 11:20. So is our time 11:20 meaning be there by 10:20 or is 11:20 ou pick up time?

Also, we made he reservation online while in Salzburg and we have no printer. Do I need the PDF to pick up the tickets or just ID and/or te credit card?

Thanks!

I am looking at our PDF reservation from last summer-yours could certainly be different. It lists the castle entrance times, and notes a couple of places that one needs to pick up tickets that day at least an hour in advance. My guess is your entrance time is 11:20, so you should pick up the tickets by 10:20. If you are in Hohenschwangau earlier, you can pick the tickets up earlier if that is convenient (I think the ticket center opens at 8:00). Sorry I don't remember if one needs the PDF or not, but mine doesn't say anywhere that it needs to be presented to pick up tickets. My PDF has a reference number and a customer number; I would think if you had those written down, that those plus your credit card should work for picking up tickets.

Unless someone here just happens to have had exactly your experience, I think those are questions you need to ask them directly. The ticket center has an email address at [email protected]. If you are already in Germany, you can call them at (0) 83 62 - 93 08 30.

If I were to guess, and this is only a guess, I would guess that your tour time is 11:20, so you should pick up your tickets at 10:20. Also, I would guess that, since no one else with your name will be there to pick up tickets at 10:20, they'll give you the tickets.

Steve, I'd agree that 40 minutes seems like plenty of time, for me, but maybe not for others. That's why the ticket center webpage advises,"Due to the distance between the ticket center and Neuschwanstein Castle, your tickets have to be picked up latest one hour before your entrance time at the ticket center."

BTW, Cary, was that email in English, or in German. If in German, do you want a translation?

It was in English. I think that was the problem. Upon further reading we figured out that it was really just a bad translation. Now that I have my computer instead of just my iPhone I can copy and paste easier. Here is what it said:

"You need to pick up your tickets at least one hour before your admission time, at 11:20, in the Ticket-Center."

It is just a case of a misused preposition. It should say, "You need to pick up your tickets at 11:20 which is one hour before you admission time."

Our admission time is at 12:20, but we are seeing Hohenschwangau first, so we should have plenty of time. Thankfully the train at 8:52 is one with no changes or stops which will make it easier to get there right on time without too much standing around.

Cary,

Did you contact the ticket agency about it? Just because you request a specific time doesn't mean you'll get it. They have limited english tours so I would guess they probably gave you the closest time to the one you requested. Perhaps you need to be there at 10:20 to pick up your tickets for an 11:20 tour.

I would call or e-mail for confirmation.

Hi Cary-
This may be after the fact, but if so, it may help someone else....

We were just there a month ago. We made our reservations about two days in advance via phone from Rothenberg and had a reservation #, so the situation is different. Two thoughts, however. If possible, call to confirm and get the question answered (since you are already in Europe). That way you know you are set and can confirm which time. If not, just stick with your plan of going early enough. When you pick up the tickets move to the windows on the far right, for reserved tickets. The multitude of chains seems daunting, but we just zoomed right up.
Aside: 1) Ask for a map there--we missed them and had to back-track. We found the map helpful, but actually POOR for the level and intensity of this tourism site. We walked everywhere--on paths that did not exist on the map.
2) Waiting in the heat at Neu. for your time was challenging, so wear a hat, sunscreen and bring water. We walked to the bridge, too. We recommend.
3) There is a Bavarian castle pass that we bought in Wurzburg at the Residenz, but can be bought at whatever the first castle you visit is (that is included in the pass). Seeing 3 castles makes it pay for itself, if I remember right. ONE of the two castles, either Hohen. or Neu was included, but not the other. So, we only paid for one, but handling fee for both, I believe. Enjoy!--it's crowded, but so memorable.

After reading a lot more carefully, it became obvious that it was just a misplaced prepositional clause (see my previous entry).

As for the castles themselves, they were awesome. I agree about the map. I know that the transportation (bus to Neu. and horse carriages) aren't part of the official ticketing agency, but it would have been helpful to give an idea of how long it took each to get to the castles so you could plan your time. We ended up having to miss the bridge because we had to get off the bus at Neu. and speed walk to the castle to make our tour. Plus it was rainy that day and we didn't want to walk back up the hill afterwards given the weather.

How quickly did those of you who made an online reservation receive a reply? Was your credit card charged at that time or not until you picked up your tickets?
I ordered 3 King's Tickets for mid-September on Sunday morning, Aug. 1 (early Sun. afternoon in Germany). I have received no email and my credit card has not been charged. Yesterday morning (about 26 hours ago), I sent a follow-up email to [email protected] giving them this information and stating that I had not yet received any confirmation. I have received no response to that email. My credit card has not been charged. I am a little concerned as the web site says I must have my confirmation to pick up my tickets and, so far, I have no confirmation nor reservation #.

When are you making this trip? Looking at your 7/28 posting, I guess you already made it. However, this information might still be useful for anyone who will make that trip between 8/10 and 9/12.

They are doing work on the tracks between Munich and Buchloe from 10 Aug to 12 Sept. The 8:52 train has been replaced by a SEV (Schienen Ersatz Verkehr - substitute bus) from Donnersbergerbrücke to Buchloe. The SEV leaves Donnersbergerbrücke S-Bahn station at 8:44. The train from Buchloe gets to Füssen at the original time of 10:55.

Here is a map of the Donnersbergerbrücke S-Bahn station.

It also looks like you can leave Munich Hbf on the 8:19 train (RE 32980) and avoid the whole SEV thing, but you'll have a train change (37 min) in Buchloe.

Consult the German Rail website for current schedules.

For more information about how to find your way from the Füssen Bahnhof to the ticket kiosk in Hohenschwangau see this webpage on Getting to Füssen and the castles.
