Neuschwanstein Castle

We are planning to visit this place. I believe it close to Munich. How far away from Munich would this place be and what option do you have to travel to this place ? I saw an ad for a bus tour. Can you also take a train ?

Yes, you can take a train. Depending on the connection, the trip to Füssen takes about 2 hours. After you get off the train in Füssen, there is a bus to Hohenschwangau, site of the castles, from in front of the Füssen station. The bus takes about 10 minutes. You can read more about getting to the castles on my webpage.

Debabrata, As Lee mentioned, it's very easy to travel from Munich to Füssen. One point to note is that tours of Neuschwanstein must be reserved for a specific time. You can also take a day tour of the Castle from Munich. Check This Website for details and costs. They take care of the transportation and Castle reservations, and a Guide accompanies the group. Tours inside Neuschwanstein are provided by the Castle Guides. Happy travels!

"One point to note is that tours of Neuschwanstein must be reserved for a specific time." Let me elaborate on that point, in case it causes some confusion. Your admission ticket assigns you to a particular tour time. Reserving tickets in advanced is not strictly necessary, but recommended if you want to visit at a particular time during the busy summer months.

I've been to the castle three times, once in December, twice around Labor Day. I've never made advance reservation, and it was never a problem. Theoretically, if you buy tickets at the time, the tour is an hour later to give you time to get to the castle, but the next English tour isn't always exactly an hour later. We've always had time to stop for lunch at Hotel Müller. The picture on my website shows the line on Aug 31 at 11:30. The serpentine is not full and people are pretty well spaced, indicating that the line is moving. You can make reservations in advance on this website. If you come out on the train and bus, you'll be pretty certain (assuming you don't miss the train) of getting to the kiosk at a specific time and make reservations accordingly.
