I submitted a request for tickets on the website on Friday. Has anyone done this? How long does it usually take to get a confirmation. I submitted my credit card information to purchase the tickets and sort of expected at least a confirmation email that they had received my request. Am I worrying too much? I don't know how to contact them without re-submitting a request to buy tickets, but I don't want to accidentally buy more than I need.

Also- can you (or others here) recommend any clean, convenient, economical hotels in Fuessen? (I'll be bringing two teenagers by train in early August. I checked the Altstadt Hotel-Zum Hechten recommended in Rick's book, but two nights' stay cost $364...which is outside of my budget. Other than youth hostels, what would you recommend?

My husband and I followed Rick's advice a couple of years ago and purchased our tickets for Neuschwanstein ahead of time. I don't remember having to submit a request for tickets. I thought I just ordered them gave my credit card number and received the confirmation.
I would definetely recommend getting in touch with them either by phone or e-mail to find out if your request did go through.
We were there in August and the line up was extremely long, it was a relief to know that we wouldn't get turned away and only had to go to the separate window for reserved tickets (no line at all). A friend went several years ago and arrived in the afternoon and wasn't able to see the castles because the lines were too long.
As for where to stay, we actually stayed in Hohenschwangua, it was perfect for us, we arrived a bit later in the afternoon and once we toured the castle we had a short walk back to our hotel. I can't remember the name of it now but it was not bad, clean and cheap. The town does get very quiet at night but we had no problem with that. Hope that helps!

D., yes, that is the page I ordered my tickets from. I will have to assume it did not go through and get a hold of them, I think. We are staying in Hohenshwangau, which I understand is about 4 km from Fussen. We are staying at the Hotel Garni Schlossblick for 62 euros a night (I think you may even be able to get it for 52 euros from their website). I don't know anything about the place, but it looked good!

Okay, I'm an idiot! The confirmation for my tickets WAS sent immediately to my email, but it went to my junk-mail folder. I didn't think to check that until now. So, my tickets have been reserved with no other problems.
