I've read that the Haarlem train ticket machines only take coins. Does anyone know if there are change machines at the station for changing bills to coins? Or, do I need to find an attendant if there is one? Thank you!
Two years ago only took coins. No change machines. There is a staff ticket window that will sell you the tickets.
Ray, One point to note about buying tickets from a staffed ticket office in Haarlem, is that you may have to consider which form of payment you use. You way want to have sufficient cash on hand, as the ticket office may ONLY accept "Chip & PIN" cards. That's the situation at Amsterdam Central, so it's possible that the station in Haarlem is the same. Happy travels!
Ken your wording is a bit confusing. You seem to be implying that the ticket windows don't accept cash...only chip & pin cards. The ticket windows at both Haarlem, and Amsterdam do accept cash. Dutch rail does tack on a small .50 euro surcharge when dealing with a human being, but not a big deal in the grand scheme of things.
@Michael, That's why I stated "you may want to have sufficient cash on hand" as that's what would be needed to pay for tickets. If the OP was intending to buy tickets with a credit card, that may not be possible. Cheers!
