We are renting an apartment in madrid in June of next year. It is located near the plaza de espana on Leganitos. It appears to be well located but never having been to Madrid I was wondering if this is a safe neighborhood.
Hi Richard,
Just got back from Spain and while I don't know the answer to your question, I got a lot of useful advice on madridman.com. I suggest you pose your question on their bulletin board. Good luck!

Lovely location...lots of Art Deco apartment blocks around there, at the upper end of Gran Via. Close to several nice parks and the Royal Palace, and a short stroll from great shopping along Gran Via, Calle del Carmen, Calle de Preciados, and other pedestrian streets in the area. Close to Puerta del Sol and Plaza Mayor.
Madrid is like any big city... even in the nicest neighhborhood there could be a thug.
The area you mentioned is nice. Just be aware of your surroundings and keep your valuable locked.
Enjoy and have a great time!
