I would like to visit some shops that sell needlepoint canvases, wool, and threads. Does anyone know the names and addresses of such shops. I had once read that there was an area of Paris that had a high concentration of such shops, but I can't remember where. Many thanks. Jane
Wife is the stitcher in this family! Don't know about "an area" of shops. Visited two different ones - Annie Bouquet Tapisserie de France at 7 Rue des Moulins and Tapisseries de la Bucherie at 2 Rue du Haut Pave. Both had a large selection. So much more available in Europe than here is the U.S. Have fun!!
My friend, Aimee, runs a tea salon and yarn shop at the Buttes de Caille called L'Oisivithe. It is charming and she often does evening knitting groups with tea and knitting and fun with other expats. You can check her site for more info: http://www.loisivethe.com/. She imports gorgeous yarns/wools from all over. If you do stop by, please tell her I sent you!
Back in May I was traveling through Belgium and Holland with someone who is an avid knitter. So we made it a point to locate specialty shops. Got very good leads from the locals at the Trip Advisor forums, and this site: http://www.knitmap.com/ There was actually a knitting cruise ship docked in Antwerp and later Amsterdam, so the shops were unusually busy:) One thing my travel partner noted was that the prices of yarn, even factoring in the currency exchange rates, were much cheaper in Europe compared to stores in the US.
I second the recommendation for L'Oisive The. The food is yummy too!
