My husband and I are planning 8 days in Amsterdam, Brussels and Bruges this July. We've got flights and hotels booked, but do we need to pre-book all our train tickets as well? We're planning to go Amsterdam to Brussels, then Brussels to Bruges, then Bruges to Amsterdam. We'd like a bit of flexibility in case we want to stay slightly longer in one place, but is that a bad idea? Can we wait to book until the day before or day of? I'm a worrier, so my husband is counseling pre-booking everything online before we leave the states, but is that necessary?
If you want to take a high-speed Thalys train from Amsterdam to Brussels, then you could save money by booking your tickets in advance (up to 90 days allowed) at www.thalys.com. Last-minute tickets on Thalys trains are expensive. However, you can take IC trains on all your routes, including Amsterdam-Brussels, and have complete flexibility. There is open seating on IC trains and no reservations are possible. Buy your tickets and jump on any train.
