Need tie and jacket for French haute cuisine?

My husband and I would like to spurge on at least one lunch at one of the high end Paris restaurants. Say, Tour d'Argent, Joel Robuchon, three Michelin stars category. Europeans tend to dress up more than Americans. For lunch, would my husband need a tie and jacket or just American business casual will do?

We just had dinner at the Tour d'Argent. I wore a black dress cocktail length with closed shoes and my husband wore a blazer with no tie. Other men had ties. We still were accepted. Hope you make reservations, we made them 6 months in advanced. By the way, the Travoltas(Yep John Travolta) were there and he wore a suit with tie, she wore a little black dress mid calf length. They seemed to be having a great time. Beautiful view.

From the OP: "Say, Tour d'Argent, Joel Robuchon, three Michelin stars category." Actually, neither of those restaurants has 3 Michelin stars: Tour d'Argent has 1 Michelin star (however, the prices are said to be 3-star). And Robuchon's Paris restaurant has 2 stars. You can go to the www.viamichelin site to see which Paris restaurants have 3 Michelin stars. It's a short list.

Once you've decided where you are going and made a reservation, why don't you call or send an email asking for the dress requirements.

Bets suggestion is a good idea. I was going to say at least wear a jacket and tie (a tie is easy to pack). If it were dinner, I'd say a suit is best. Even though they may not turn you away if he's not wearing a jacket and tie, I think it's appropriate for a Michelin star restaurant in Paris.
