Need suggestions- Switzerland between Liechtenstein and Milan

We will be making our way to Venice (through Milan) from Liechtenstein and want a neat "Back door" experience in a small Swiss village about halfway along that route. I located one small village, Sufers, near a small lake. Anyone know anything about it or about one of the other towns along that road? I definitely want to spend the night still up in the Alps before descending into Milan. Also any hints about the road conditions would be helpful- it makes me a little nervous to see the big red road first become orange, and then become a small yellow road right around that area! We will be going in July so I don't think we have to worry about road closings- just scary conditions or getting lost!
