My friends and I will be travelling into Paris from Gare Nord and need a place to stay for a couple of nights. I read older posts which mentioned Etap Hotel and the MIJE residences. Has anyone stayed recently at a place they could recommend? We definitely are on a budget. Thanks.

I'm one of the people who heartily recommends the three MIJE hostels in the Marais. You don't have to stay in a dorm room. There also are single, double, and triple rooms. I haven't stayed in an Etap hotel, but there are people on this board who have and say they're fine. However, you won't find any that are close to the heart of Paris. Most of them are on the outer edge of central Paris near the Peripherique ring road that circles the city.
