From reading the previous posts, it sounds like Murren is a good choice to stay. What is the nicest place for lodging at the best price? (I don't know how to interpret/convert Swiss prices given in guidebooks to US money..)Thanks!
We loved Hotel Eiger. We had a room with balcony and loved it. Large very clean room, sparkling clean bathroom, very comfortable beds with down comforters, and the staff was exceptional. Great restaurant. The view from our windows and balcony of the Alps was jaw-dropping. We've stayed here twice because we liked it so much. Highly recommend it! I will say it's not the least expensive hotel in Murren, but I don't know what your budget is. To convert any currency into US dollars just google "currency converter".
I'll second Chalet Fontana...find details and photos on tripadvisor.
Susan, Thanks so much for your speedy reply and the helpful info!
Thanks, also, Tim & Michael! :)
We've stayed at Chalet Fontana 2 times and sent 3 of our personal friends and their families to the Chalet Fontana. They all loved it. It's not luxury by any stretch, but it's EXACTLY what I would expect from an Alpine Swiss Chalet.
Check out the Hotel Alpina. I've not stayed there but have friends who have and reliably report having an excellent experience. It sits right on the edge of the cliff, so if you have a balcony on the Lauterbrunnen Valley side you have awesome views over the valley to the mountains on the other side. And that doesn't say anything about the views down--way, way down--into the valley! I beleive Alpina is the only hotel right on the edge of the cliff.
Yes, the Hotel Alpina is definitely perched on the edge, but I believe the Hotel Edelweiss is also quite on the edge. They have a terrace for their restaurant, and I remember going to the ledge and looking down down down. Almost anywhere in Muerren will give you some sort of eye-popping scenery. The whole place is like a postcard.
I just booked 3 nights at the Chalet Fontana. Can't wait!
