Hello! I am going to spend June 30-July 7 with my three daughters and one of their 17 year old girlfriends and we want to do a lovely island experience. While I am sure my teens would love to party :), I want to keep it family time! We have had the following suggested: Canary Islands (i have potential home swap in Tenerife and Las Palma area) I have heard it is dirty and touristy. True? Majorca? Corsica? I prefer to do home swaps and have found nothing for Majorca. I also looked on airbnb.com. I have not researched Majorca home swaps yet but found lovely airbnb.com places for not so much money. Would love your opinion! Marni
First week of July is THE prime tourist season for all of those islands. It will be quite touristy. If you want a place a bit quieter I'd suggest focussing on Corsica.
I was just on Tenerife (Playa de las Americas) a few weeks ago for holiday break. It's not what I consider a dirty place at all. It was much cleaner than any of the Hawaiian Islands I've been to. Touristy, yes in the tourist areas, but if you're at a resort and walk in to town or take the hotel shuttle, it's great. The other islands are indeed less-touristy but many still have a good night life. That time of year is going to be really hot-hot-hot though. Awesome water park-Siam Park. What it sounds like you're looking for is Malta. Malta is a great mix of scenic and night life. Ibiza of course is party central, but there's some resorts that are relaxing. Corsica is a good choice as you've found. Also look at the many Greek Islands, there's quite a few with great resorts and some local sights as well.
Do you mean "Las Palmas" as in the town by that name on Gran Canaria, or "La Palma" as in Isla de la Palma which is one of the smaller islands? They would be quite different. I have only been to Las Palmas de la Gran Canaria, which is a large bustling city, but the beach there, La Playa de las Canteras, is very clean and inviting. I wouldn't want to spend a week there, although it was nice for a couple of days. Did you consider Elba?
