While in Italy, we will fly from Rome to Madrid for 2 nights (September 24 through 26). I have noticed that hotels are quite expensive. we are not looking for luxury but for a safe, clean place at a reasonable rate. Any suggestions? Thank you fellow travelers!

Have you looked at the RS Spain or Europe book? He has some "cheaper sleeps" listed that actually look quite affordable. We're going to book a room (haven't yet...) for mid-October in the Hostal Cervantes. a double with a bath is 55 euros. A friend of ours stayed there and said it was good enough. It's not fancy at all, but it'll be good enough. There were several listed around this price range, so there should be some budget options. Good luck!
