We're interested in staying at Irmgard Orth's B&B in Bacharach. Other than speaking slowly as your book suggests, I don't know how to communicate with her over the phone. How can I confirm my room's reserved, she got the date right, etc? Would she need a credit card number for deposit? If any of you had stayed there before, could you give me some tips before I make a call to her? Thanks!!
I just ventured to call her, and yes, she was very friendly and nice. I managed to reserve a room, but failed to ask about towels, arriving time, and some other details. Do you know if she provides/rents linens and towels? Does she have a set time for check-in/check-out? Thanks again!
Joanne, I have not stayed with Irmgard Orth, but I've stayed in numerous B&B's in Germany and France. I have never encounted a B&B where they did not provide towels and linens. When renting an apartment you may have to pay extra for linens but not at B&B's. As for arrival time a general rule of thumb would be around 5 pm. If you happen to arrive early, there's plenty to see in Bacharach. Many B&B's will take you at your word and don't require a deposit. Most don't take credit cards an prefer cash.
Thank you for your reply. I feel more relieved now. :)
Joanne, I stayed at Irmgard Orth's. There are towels and linens. I don't recall being without anything like that, and I had called and booked the room about 4 hrs before I arrived. My room (Dbl on ground floor) had a very big shower too! Irmgard is very sweet and I had no problem with the language barrier.
Thanks Janice! I'm really excited about our stay at Irmgard's!
If you've never traveled to Europe before, there is one piece of linnen that lodgings do not provide: a wash cloth. Sometimes, you'll get one of those wash mit things, but never a wash cloth.
Thanks for your comment! We'll surely pack some wash cloth.
