Oradour-sur-Glane, maybe? It's about fifteen miles northwest of Limoges. Drive? Taxi? Walk? There's no train tracks and it's a bit small to have any kind of frequent bus service.

George, As Ed mentioned, you're probably thinking of Oradour sur Glane near Limoges where almost the entire population of the town perished at the hand of the Nazi's. Several men escaped from the Laudy Barn and at least two women and one child escaped from the Church. The original town was left as a Memorial (I believe on de Gaulle's orders), and a new town was built a short distance away. "How to get there" will depend on where you're travelling from and what mode of transportation you're using. If you're travelling by public transport, the easiest method is to take the train to Limoges. From there you can either rent a car for the day, or take the Bus. I found some information on the Bus lines in this post, but not sure how current it is? "The tiny town of Oradour-sur-Glane (not to be confused with Haute-Vienne's 2 other Oradours) contains 2 distinct sections: the new town and its obliterated predecessor. Equival runs a daily bus (#12) from Limoges (at the train station, pl. des Charentes, pl. des Carmes, or pl. Winston Churchill) to the Centre de la Mémoire (old town) Sept.-June and to both towns July-Aug. (30min., 4-6 per day, €3). Schedules at the Limoges tourist office and train station. I found the visit to the Memorial to be very moving. Hope this helps.

I thought it was well worth seeing too. Take a few minutes in the museum, watch the film, look at the pictures, then visit the village. The timeline is part of the reason- the Allied invasion in Normandy had just taken place days before. We had a car and stopped off on our way, for about 1.5-2 hour visit.
