Navigating Mallorca without a car.

We have 2.5 days to tour Palma, Soller and Alcudia areas during shorter daylight over New Years. Thanks to adynata we are covered in Barcelona, Girona and Tarragona for Roman History sites rounding out our trip, when we were traveling back in March. Reading websites and a small Eyewitness book about Mallorca, I still can't determine travel times with trains and buses to Alcudia. I think we can stay in Palma and do a day trip to Soller, but would it be best to take a coastline bus from Soller to Alcudia or train/bus from Palma? Please guesstimate time traveling to Alcudia, see Old Town, a half-day boat trip to the Point. Is the Old Town worth the trip if Roman History the interest, or even an overnight, taking the plane back to Barcelona rather than the ferry, despite my love of all boats? Sorry for the convoluted question. Thanks.
