I'm in the process of planning a trip in May to France and I wanted to see what sort of effect national holidays in France have on sights, restaurants, transport, etc. Looks like the only holidays next year that will affect my plans are Ascension Day on Thursday, May 29 and Mother's Day on May 25. We'll also be in Normandy at the end of May; my concern there is that its getting close to the 70th anniversary of D-Day. Has anyone been there close to major anniversaries such as this one in the past? I'm interested in hearing what sort of impacts that it might have on hotel availability, crowds, etc.
