Have just realized that May 8 (Victory Day) & 9th (Ascension Day) are National Holidays in France. Many things close, does this include Paris museums, Giverny, etc? Please advise.
You'll have to check the individual websites for each place you want to visit. Some will close and others won't. Everything is usually closed May 1 for Labor Day, though.
Thanks for the info.
Wondering about the Galeries Lafayette & Printemps would they be open shorter hours or not at all?
I agree with the previous poster...check the websites. If I remember correctly, we visited Giverny on one of the holidays. I think half of the French population descended on the gardens. I also remember that some of the Loire chateaux were closed on May 1. May is a big month for holidays and it is a big month for attaching vacation days to the holiday itself. We have found that reservations are a very good idea. I say that from stopping at lots of hotels and having to continue looking. Will you be there on May 1? If so, be sure to buy some lilies of the valley from the kids who are selling them along side the roads. :)
Actually in Southern France at the beginning of May. I have checked the websites for the museums, etc. but can't seem to find out if Printemps & Galeries Lafayette are open. Crazy but with the train ticket boutiques closed on Sun., the normal Mon./Tues. closures & then the Holidays on Tues. & Wed. it's hard to figure out timing as to when to do what.
Thanks for the posts.
