Nantes France

Next July I'll be staying in Nantes on the western side of France. Anyone ever been there? How was it? Looking for interesting day trips to launch from there. Thanks!

Nantes is a formerly wealthy city, with a lot of grand old buildings and houses. Trading/shipping companies were based there during colonial times, allowing residents to amass fortunes. Nantes is at the mouth of the Loire. You have handy access to both the western Loire valley (which I find more interesting than the eastern with all its chateaus), and southern Brittany. Great place to be. The green Michelin guides for the Loire and Brittany will give you very detailed information on nearby trips. Nantes, itself is probably in the Loire guide.
