Where's the best places to hear traditional Irish music in Dublin? Temple Bar?
Marc,
The Temple Bar district would be a good place to start, as there are LOTS of Pubs and many have live Irish music. One of my favourites is Oliver St. John Gogarty's. You might also check the Arlington, which is across the river (use the Ha Penny Bridge). Last time I was there, they had a small "River Dancing" group in the bar area in the basement (can't remember what entertainment they had on the main floor).
Cheers!
I second Oliver St John Gogarty's! Great times there. Very lively, welcoming. The Irish music plays upstairs. Downstairs is also a bar and they play more current (radio) music. Love that place. Also enjoyed the Porterhouse. I know they often have live music but not sure if it's ever traditional Irish music. I was there one night with the hopes of that and wouldn't you know it...the band was a rock band from California (where I am from!). Not what I expected! But the place was really big and nice feel to it.
I Love, Love, Gogarty's! My fave place in Dublin any night of the week. Make sure you go upstairs to hear the music. :)
You will probably get more responses posting this in the To The North folder. As for me and mine, we enjoyed the Brazen Head (not least due to the fact that it was just around the corner from where we were staying).
