Cannot find anything in Rick's book about such a museum or other place where we can see artifacts and learn about the Spanish discovery of the Americas.
Anyone seen such a place? Thank you!

Though I can't remember if it covered this subject specifically, the Naval Musuem might have something about this, in any event it's a unique museum that traces the history of the Spanish Navy, it's near the Prado.
The Naval Museum covers the Spanish history from the Armadas to today. It is a block from the Prado Museum on Paseo del Prado #5.
It is only open 10:00 to 2:00 Tues thru Sunday. RS mentions it is a military facility so you need to show your passport to get in. It's spanish only, as is its website - www.museonavalmadrid.com.
Good point Virginia, you will need to show your passport. When I went there was a couple in front of us that didn't have theirs and they were denied entrance, my friend didn't have his but we were able to both get in on mine. I found it very interesting, but being a former U.S Navy sailor I guess I would be a little bias in that regard.
