We bought Alhambra tickets online and there was a block for "jubliados" which was translated as retired. Afterward my husband read somewhere that in Spain retired is 65. We are 64 & 62 but retired in the US. Will we be okay when we pick up our tickets in June at the gate? Or do we need to purchase another set of tickets before they sell out?
All depends on who you get the tickets from--if they ask"where are you from?" and you say "U.S.," NEW TICKETS!
My experience is if they ask and you answer truthfully,, U.S. citizens do not qualify for the discounts, only EU citizens.
From my experience, there don't seem to be consistent policies in Europe regarding who qualifies as a senior -- not only for museums, but for other senior discounts. In some places you have to be an EU citizen or resident of the country; some places you have to show some kind of senior ID card; while in other places they give anybody the discount who says they are over 65.
