We will be coming in from the north to enter the Louvre and I have read that there is an entrance just inside the arch that has an escalator to take you into the Louvre without having to enter inside the Pyramid. Supposedly you look for a guard who is at the top of the escalator. We will have Paris museum passes. Can anyone tell exactly how to find this? We will be coming down Rue Rivoli. Thanks.
Laurie, its easy to find, but its best done with a visual. Simply google for the offical Louvre website. It will be one right on top. Then, click on "plan my visit", then click on "floor plans" . Now there is a map that shows you the three main entrances, The Pyramid( the one to avoid because it is best known and lines form there). The Carousel entrance off rue du Rivoli( this one you enter , take an escaltor downstairs to mall) .I have used this entrance many times, without the museum pass and never had to wait more then 5-10 minutes to get through security ( which is unavoidable pass or not)
And then the one I think you are talking about, its the Richelie entrance, which is through the archways on Rue Du Rivoli and then down an escalator from ground level. The problem with this entrance is ,, sometimes they only allow it to be used by group tours,, I have however used it when its not been too busy.
Thanks. This info is great. Your help is most appreciated.
