Murren Switzerland - Chalet Raufthubel -

We are down to the wire with decision on accomodations. Has anyone stayed in Chalet Raufthubel? Our other option (that is half affordable) is the Sportschalet. We're a family of 5 (kids 15,20,20). Thanks!

I have not stayed at this chalet. If it doesn't work, check out Hotel Alpina in Muerren. However, I'm not sure if they have family rooms. Good Luck!

Not sure about that place, but Chalet Fontana has a huge room that takes up the top floor. I can't recall how many it sleeps...I recall at least 3 beds...not sure if it's a triple, quad, or family. You might be able to do a triple and another double...rates are cheap. Anyway, check it out..it's a fantastic lodging with awesome views of the mountains. The WCs are shared, but there are 2 in the house. Very clean place...I would certainly stay there again.

Chalet Fontana also has a ground floor apartment that would be perfect for a family, but I am thinking they are all booked. Sportchalet is pretty basic, but the location is great. We haven't stayed there, but we have used their tennis courts, a real treat if you play tennis. And I am not familiar with Chalet Raufthubel but apartments are usually the best choice for a family. If the location is good (and looking at the view from the chalet it looks like it is fine) that should be fine.

Yes - Fontana is all full! We just got an offer from Hotel Alpenruh's apartment but it would be a couple hundred more to stay there. I am thinking we'll go ahead with Raufthubel. We will definately use the tennis courts at Sportzentrum! Thanks everyone!

I just came back! Stay in the Hotel Alpina get a balcony view. You're going to die with the view. You're on a cliff . it's amazing! Co-op is right there it's a grocery. And get some bread sausage and dessert at the bakery across. If you get a chance eat at the restaurant at the winteregg station . You can hike down it's easy about 30 minutes. it has a kid menu . We ordered the salmon salad and the meat salad with a Blauburgunder wine( blue burgundy). You have to it's traditional there. Delicious! The meat is from a farmer in Gimmelwald. Walk as you're leaving to the the right on the the street and there's a cheese hut with lots of cow bells. Get the alpine cheese and these caramel tasting cube sweet somethings! See if they have the milk available. The kids will see how cheese is made. Then take a nice photographic to die for easy hike from Winteregg to Grutschalp. That's it! Don't keep hiking at Grutschalp take the train to Lauterbrunnen or back to Murren. We made the mistake of going on. It was a horrible walk. We learned too late that the passages are marked with either a white/red/white rectangle (avoid) or a yellow diamond that says Wanderweg that's the way to go.
It's incredible!

Just to clarify---the tennis courts we used were at the Sportchalet, not the Sportzentrum. These are clay courts right on the edge of the cliff (with a good fence). There is a reason they call this "der schönste Tennisplatz der Welt". I think we paid 20 chf for an hour, and we were reminded to clean them (tools provided at the court) for the next players before leaving. Mürren is lovely--have fun.
