We are currently scheduled to go to Murren, via Interlaken, June 4-6. But we're getting worried that it's very much between seasons, and everything will be closed. Should we alter our itinerary? Thanks! Joe L
We are going to be there about that same time. From my research, most things should be open. Interested in what others may have to say...
Joe and Craig, I typically visit that area in the fall, but AFAIK June is also a good time to visit. The snow should mostly be gone and the hotels and other tourist facilities should be operating. Happy travels!
All of the tourist infrastructure should be open. Now, on the question of whether or not the hiking conditions will be acceptable, that's a different story. Spring came late to most of non-Mediterranean Europe this year, so that delayed the start of the yearly snow melt-off. I can't say one way or another what it will be like in early June, but I would expect less than optimal conditions, particularly at higher elevations or areas that lie in shadow.
No, everything is not closed. We'll be there on the 7th and everything will be fine just like it is every year. Hotels, restaurants, gift shop, Coop, Schilthorn Gondola, etc will be open and ready for you. The wildflowers will be blooming and the cowbells tinkling and the waterfalls thundering down the cliffs in the distance. You might even see the cows moving to higher pastures right through the center of town. We're there almost every year in early June...sometimes late late May. I sure hope we get some sunny days during that time!
Ditto - you'll be fine in June. Best of all due to the delayed spring, the wildflowers will be going nuts. I'm guessing the only places that should really be horribly muddy will be up very high, ie Mannlichen, First, Bachalpsee. If your interest is hiking high up check with the TI and they'll tell you whats open. Most of the lifts and hotels are closed for their midseason break in May.
