Murren hotel with a view and balcony

We are going to be traveling to Switzerland and staying in Murren for 4 nights with friends in Sept 2014. We have been to this area before but stayed in Lauterbrunnen and Grindelwald. My friends have never been to Europe and I want to stay at a hotel with a wonderful view of the mountains and a balcony would be nice. I was thinking about the Alpina hotel. Has anyone stayed here or in Murren and have any suggestions? Thank you.

We've stayed at the Hotel Eiger twice because we liked it so much. Both times we had a very nice, very clean, large room with nice bathroom, comfortable beds and a large balcony with incredible views. I highly recommend it. It's not the least expensive hotel but it is very nice. They have a restaurant with excellent food and the people who work in reception, and throughout, are wonderful.

Darla, The rooms at the front of Hotel Alpina do have views over the valley, and getting a corner room would provide good views in two directions. You'd probably have to request a view room and there may be an extra charge. The hotel gets excellent ratings on Trip Advisor, so it looks like it would be a good choice. As I recall, Hotel Alpina is at the end of town closest to the BLM railway station, so that's a good feature too (not that Mürren is that big). Cheers!

Thank you all for the suggestions. I have a lot to look at now and to make a decision which will work out best for us. It sounds like they all have great views and balconies which we really want. Next is figuring which is the best pass to buy, the swiss flex pass or the 1/2 fare card? Too many decisions.

"The only thing wrong with the hotel itself is that it needs updating" According to the Alpina website, they just did some renovations. I don't recall if they indicated when they were done. Given their ratings on Trip Advisor, Alpina is still worth considering (IMO). Cheers!

A lot of hotels in the region include September in their "summer" pricing. The shoulder season doesn't start-up until October.

As I looked further, Hotel Eiger is 315 and Edelweiss is 268 for rooms with balcony. Bigger difference than I first saw. As I said, there are less expensive hotels in Murren than the Eiger. I was simply saying we stayed there twice and loved it. I would look into Ken's recommedations if I were on a budget. I would also see what deals are available at any hotel that looks good to you since your dates are 13 mos ahead. I wouldn't take the online price at face value. When I book hotels I email them and the price they quote me has always or usually been lower than their website price.

I don't doubt you Chris. But we all have different tastes. What you might like, I might not. For our next visit to Murren, what hotel has nice, big, clean rooms, nice, clean, modern bathrooms and a large balcony with amazing views like Hotel Eiger? We will be visiting Murren again and I would be happy to pay less than the Hotel Eiger price as long as it's still very nice. Thanks Chris!.. :)
