Murren area: types of trails, roads, paths?

I will be in Murren the second week of May. Looking at the web cams, it appears they still have tons of snow, but the paved areas are cleared. I know there is a paved lane from Murren to Gimmelwald, are there other paved trails/roads that one could hike if you wanted to avoid snow/mud on dirt trails? Maybe to Allmendhubel (I know the finicular is closed)? or further up the Lauterbrunnen valley?

My memory is that the paths to Allmendhubel are gravel and not paved.

Joe, In the second week of May, a hike to Allmend-Hubel should be possible. As you noted, the Funicular will be closed until June 1st, so you'll have to hike uphill. The trail from the top of the Funicular down into the valley is somewhat narrow, but as I recall it's packed gravel (almost like "seal coating") so almost like paved. When you reach the bottom of that trail, it widens slightly into a narrow road, but again "hard packed" so like walking on pavement. There's a small Hotel & Pub there (as well as a couple of houses), so you'd be able to stop for a "cold one" if it's open then. It's a fairly gentle slope as the road/trail progresses downhill towards Mürren. Eventually it narrows a bit and passes underneath the Funicular. I've only done the hike downhill from the Funicular, but it shouldn't be too much of an effort to go uphill. I'll be back there this fall, so might try that hike again, just to "refresh my memory". You might find it helpful to have a look at the hiking maps on the Gimmelwald website. Happy travels!
