I am using airline miles to fly into/out of Munich. Plan to spend most of my time in Austria but want to do a quick stopover in Slovenia. Looking online at airline/train sites, I can't decide what itinerary would be better. Any suggestions? I plan to travel late next year, so airline flights from Munich-Ljubljana on several websites are expensive right now.

For clarification - I have already booked the flight. To use minimum amount of miles, I am flying United to/from Munich. To fly within Europe would have cost more miles, which I didn't want to do this trip. I was just wondering if anyone had taken one specific, or both, itineraries and what they thought of them: any pros,cons, etc.

If you have it in mind to visit Salzburg at all, that's a great way to go. Couple hours by car or train from Munich - spend a night or two in Salzburg, the LJU is 4hrs by train or car. Very nice train ride or drive - worth the time.
