My son is on the US Ski Team and will be competing in Marianske Lazne Czech Republic. I have made reservations to fly to Munich. I would like to take the train from Munich to Marianske Lazne. Having lived in the northwest and have not traveled to Europe I am looking for some guide lines on how to get from Munich to Marianske Lazne and possible places to stay. Does anyone have any ideas?
It's about a 4hr 20min train ride from Munich with 2 changes:Nuremberg and Cheb which is at the border to the Czech Republic. You can check schedules and purchase tickets at the German Rail (DB) website: www.bahn.de
thanks for the quick reply ..
Being from a small town and only speaking english and not traveling out side of the US but determined to do this ... is this a fairly straight forward thing to do?
For a first timer in Europe the train system, at first, can seem a bit intimidating. But it is very easy to learn. At the "travel store" section of this website Rick sells a "travel skills" DVD which patiently explains how to use the trains and read the schedules. A lot of this is also covered in his "Europe through the Back Door" guide book. In terms of language, 99% of Americans that visit Europe speak nothing but English and manage just fine. As a general rule, people that deal with tourists on a continual basis, like rail ticket agents/conductors, hotel clerks etc. speak excellent English. If you've ever seen the TV show "The Amazing Race", just remember if the idiots they cast on the show can do it, so can you :)
thanks again ... I think that I will pick up both of the products that you listed ...Pat
His Name is Patrick Deneen and he currently ranked #1 in the United States in Freestyle Mogul skiing and 5th in the world .. he was on NBC twice this past month... Pat,
As an avid skier, of course I have to ask your son's name and if the competition will be televised (and which network will carry it if so). Also, when? Congratulations to him on making the team and best of luck in his competition. I think it is incredibly cool that you are going to get to go watch him compete in Europe!
