Munich to Luzern with Swiss Pass only

We will be traveling from Munich to Luzern with a Swiss Pass. DB Bahn states that Lindau Hbf is the border crossing station.

Can we purchase tickets (savings fare) @ DB Bahn from Munich to Lindau Hbf and use the Swiss Pass for the rest of the journey?

If yes, how do we get the Swiss Pass validated without getting off the train?

How does one purchase seats reservation from Lindau Hbf to Luzern using our Swiss Pass in Munich?

You will pass through a little bit of Austria between Lindau and St Margrethen. According to this map it looks like you will have to buy a ticket from Munich to St Margrethen from where your Swiss Pass will be valid. You can book a Savings fare of €19 on the DB site for Munich-St Margrethen on an EC train that continues on to Zurich.

Validate your Swiss Pass in Munich.

Seat reservations may not even be available for Zurich-Luzern.

This might have been a case of leaping before you looked. How much is a day of your Swiss Pass. With a saving fare, you can get Munich to Luzern for €39, and not have to worry about where to validate the Swiss Pass.

On the other hand, Munich to Lindau is at least €19 and you might still have to cover the section in Austria from Lindau to St. Margrethen, plus validate the Swiss pass. You might be able to do it in Munich, but I wouldn't guarantee it.

Do you have a use for another day of the swiss pass?

Yes we will be using a day of the Swiss pass (8 day consecutive).

Leaving Munich Oct 10. Leaving Geneva Oct 17. Total Swiss days will be 8 including day from Munich.

DB Bahn has e19 for one from Munich to St Margrethen, but e39 each for four persons which is the same price from Munich to Luzern.
