Munich to Frankfurt

We are planning a trip to Munich in April and making our way (7days) to Frankfurt and flying out. The questions I have are: Is this a good route? Suggestions on what to see?
Places to stay? Thank YOu

There are lots of things to see from Munich - Salzburg, Berchtesgaden, the castles at Hohenschwangau, Rothenburg odT, to name a few. Around Frankfurt, of course, the Middle Rhine, Bacharach, St. Goar, is close. In between is the Black Forest.

By Train. Thinking we will do point to point instead of a pass?

Munich to Frankfurt in 7 days isn't so far that a Pass makes sense unless you REALLY want that flexibility. There's a lot "inbetween" those cities - the Alpine and Romantic road sights that others have hinted at, as well as the Bodensee (Western Europe's largest lake I think?), "Swiss Franconia" (a confusing name but a beautiful region that includes the cities of Nurnberg and Bamberg), the Swabian Alb which is quite rural and has some great castles...there's a ton to do. You'll also be driving through some famous german "routes" - like the Romantic Road, the Half-timbered house road, the German wine road....so it really depends on your interests. Cars, wine, nature, food - what appeals to you? Alsace, France wouldn't be a bad option either, honestly.

Stay in Munich for 4 days without a car. See the city in two days (Hofbrauhaus, Residenz, the churches, museums you find interesting), and take two day trips to Neuschwanstein, Kloster Andechs, Salzburg, etc... Travel out in the morning to Rothenburg (train or car) and either spend the night or just pass through onto either Mainz or Wiesbaden. Spend a day in the cities and spend a day exploring the Rhein. Or spend both days on the Rhein, whatever perks your interest. There's honestly so much to do and so many places to stay you'll have to figure out what your interests are and spend time doing that.

It really does depend on your interests. Look at a fairly comprehensive guide like the Michelin Green Guide, which lays sights out geographically. We have done this route in reverse several times. I like river towns with castles, old churches and a long history. Along this route Regensburg and Würzburg are my favorites. Nürnberg, Rothenburg, Landshut and Bamberg are also nice. It does come down to what strikes your fancy. We travel by train. All these stops short of Frankfurt are in Bavaria and the Bayern-Ticket is a good daily bargain in most instances.

4 days in Munich is way too much! I say: Salzburg, Nuremberg, Bamberg and Munich. From Salburg take bus to Berchesgaen for a day trip. Nurnberg has WWII sights, Bamberg is beautiful and has great beer. Munich doesn't wow me but I love the beer halls - Weiss Brau Haus (something like that) is our favorite.
